3 of the best needle drops from the latest season of ‘Yellowstone’

From cowboy rants to songs about country life, country music is no stranger to life in the West. Because of that connection, the Yellowstone soundtrack used songs from the country’s biggest stars. Find our favorite needle drops from the latest Yellowstone season below.

1. “Whiskey Fever” (Zach Bryan)

Got a whiskey fever that I can’t shake
And the girls in the city center are more than I can bear
High-backed rocky mountains and sailor’s mouths
And the boys in the back of the bar were screaming their heads off

Zach Bryan has had quite an upward trajectory. He can thank Yellowstone for at least part of his growing fame. “Whiskey Fever” appears in episode one of season five. This track remains one of the best in Bryan’s catalog. Its inclusion in the series fits both the atmosphere and themes of the beloved show.

2. “Smells like smoke” (Lainey Wilson)

If I look a little drunk it’s because I’ve had a little to drink
If my neck is a little red it’s because I’m one
Heaven is where I will go, the Bible says so on my shelf
But if I smell like smoke it’s only because I’ve been through hell

In addition to joining the cast, Lainey Wilson contributed quite a few cuts to the Yellowstone soundtrack. While some of her extras were written for the acclaimed album Bell Bottom Country, “Smell Like Smoke” was written specifically for the series. The song has a cowboy spirit, perfect for the plot of this Western-themed show.

3. “No horseback riding” (Luke Grimes)

I would be a drunk if I didn’t have something to drink
A guitar with a broken string
Without you, I would be a shooting star without the midnight sky
A cowboy has no horse to ride

Luke Grimes has proven his talent as an actor and musician in the latest installment of Yellowstone. “No Horse to Ride” wasn’t Grimes’ first foray into music, but it may be his most famous song. The song is tailor-made for a cowboy, fitting his personality.
