5 Chicago Fire romances you probably blocked out of your memory
Some of these 51 relationships didn’t age very well.
Chicago Fire has been on the air for over a decade, so it should come as no surprise that there have been lots of romantic combinations over the years. Characters have come and gone, relationships have sparked and flamed out, and some age better than others.
It’s not that the relationships are bad, per say, but there are some Chicago Fire combinations that are very bizarre to consider, given where the characters ended up and who they ended up with.
There’s a few that have stood the test of time, and are still part of the fabric of the show today, but we thought it would be more fun to focus on the ones that are don’t quite add up.
5. Gianna Mackey and Blake Gallo
Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende) may have had his most meaningful connection with Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith), but the firefighter did have romantic chemistry with paramedic Gianna Mackey (Adriyan Rae) in season 9.
It’s worth noting that Gallo and Mackey never went out on an official date, but the groundwork was being laid for what looked to be something notable before the character of Mackey was written off the show.
Because of Mackey’s premature exit, and Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) warning Gallo from romancing the paramedic, this could-have-been romance never got the shine it deserved.
4. Gabby Dawson and Peter Mills
Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) is best remembered for her marriage to Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer), and understandably so, but there was a brief period in season 1 in which Dawson was romantically involved with Peter Mills (Charlie Barnett) instead.
Dawson and Mills weren’t a bad match on paper, as the two shared a love for cooking, but things were never going to last. Dawson was struggling with her romantic feelings for Casey, and Mills was able to sense it, leading to trust issues.
Not a baffling combination so much as one that’s been lost to time.
3. Stella Kidd and Zach Torbett
It always felt like Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) were going to end up together, given their electric chemistry. There were long stretches of the show in which they tried to make a go of relationships with other people, however, and Zach Torbett was one of these people.
Torbett (Daniel di Tommaso) was a Hazmat Specialist who worked for the city’s fire department, and he and Kidd went on a handful of dates during season 6. They clicked in a multitude of ways, but like the relationship between Mills and Dawson, it was obvious that this was not the real deal.
Torbett realized that Kidd was more interested in Severide than him, and things ended shortly after that.
2. Anna Turner and Kelly Severide
Kelly Severide has had a bizarre romantic history. Stella Kidd has been the one for him, but there were stretches of Chicago Fire where it seemed as though he might decide to settle down with someone else. Anna Turner (Charlotte Sullivan) was one such example.
Severide and Turner met after the former dedicated bone marrow to the latter. They entered into a brief relationship, but things took a turn for the tragic after Turner’s leukemia returned worse than ever, and ultimately claimed her life.
Severide hasn’t really talked about Turner’s death in recent years, but it was obvious at the time that it left an enormous impact on him. It’s worth remembering.
1. Sylvie Brett and Joe Cruz
This one is so strange. Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) was new to the 51, and she succumbed to the charm of one Joe Cruz. They dated for a brief time, but Brett ultimately called it quits in season 3 when she realized that they were not on the same page.
Things have obviously remained fine between Brett and Cruz, and they are good friends, but the notion of Brett, who is engaged to Casey, and Cruz, who is married and has two children, being a couple for any period of time is such an oddity that it may catch some viewers off-guard during a rewatch.
