“Again Is Unfair”: Burgess & Ruzek’s Latest Engagement Addressed By Chicago PD Actor
Marina Squerciati confirms that Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek’s latest engagement in Chicago PD season 11 will finally have a happy ending.
After a couple of failed attempts, actress Marina Squerciati discusses why Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek’s engagement in Chicago P.D. season 11 will finally have a happy ending. To say that Intelligence’s original romance has been through so much in the last decade would be an understatement. Still, it has always been clear that Burgess and Ruzek have loved each other from the start. So it was a major milestone for the couple when they take a major step in being committed to each other in Chicago P.D. season 11, episode 3, “Safe Harbor.”
As romantic as it was seeing them get engaged, it’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time that they tried getting married.Burgess and Ruzek have been engaged twice before in Chicago P.D., so there are concerns that this may end up with them breaking it off, again. Amid those worries, Squerciati reassures viewers in a new interview with TV Insider that this time, the couple will be going all the way.
“When we first met Ruzek, he was a hothead. He was a playboy. Although it was funny for a couple of years, Patty was upset that the world felt like he was the playboy because he was like, you’re the one who called it off, not me. But I think that they’ve both been through so much, and yet they keep coming back to each other. They’re each other’s person. They can’t help it, and they get along so well. Just like Marina and Patty get along so well.”
Will Burgess & Ruzek Get Married In Chicago Fire Season 11?
Despite being the very first love line in Chicago P.D., Burgess and Ruzek have seen some of his teammates tie the knot ahead of them. Most recently, Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton married in an intimate shotgun ceremony at the courthouse. Considering the pair’s predicament at that point, it made sense that they wanted to do it as quickly as possible. It’s unlikely that Burgess and Ruzek will follow that path, especially given everything that they have gone through. If anything, Hank Voight may even personally throw them a bash sometime in Chicago P.D. season 11.
Because Squerciati essentially confirms that there won’t be any backing out for the pair this time, tying the knot this season seems the best way to pay off the pair’s long romance. After Ruzek’s near-death experience in the Chicago P.D. season 10 finale, they may not want a long engagement anyway. Despite the shortened season, the timing is also perfect, assuming that Halstead will make his way back to Chicago and rekindle his marriage with Upton. Giving Intelligence a cause for celebration before it loses another detective in Upton could be the perfect Chicago P.D. season 11 finale storyline.
If Burgess and Ruzek end up tying the knot in Chicago P.D. season 11, it will likely be after Firehouse 51 gets their wedding. As previously revealed, Chicago Fire‘s Sylvie Brett and Matt Casey will be getting married in the Windy City before both of them move to Portland permanently. It’s curious, however, if NBC is planning some kind of overlap since the events sound like the perfect time for a mini-crossover.
