Hollyoaks confirms wedding chaos for Leela Lomax and Joel Dexter – as major spanner is thrown in the works
Leela Lomax (Kirsty Leigh Porter) and Joel Dexter’s (Rory Douglas-Speed) wedding day follows in the footsteps of many classic Hollyoaks nuptials, with sheer chaos set to unfold.
The couple, as viewers know, have had their fair share of drama this year, with the arrival of Joel’s estranged brother Abe Fielding (Tyler Conti) – and equally estranged mum Marie (Rita Simons) – proving to be the catalyst in it all.
Factor in a deadly crash, which left Joel fighting for his life – not to mention the return of ex flame Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin) – and it’s no wonder that Leela has had her doubts about tying the knot with the former priest.
But despite all the obstacles that life has thrown their way, Leela and Joel decide to throw caution to the wind in upcoming scenes and get married – in quite a unique way which frustrates their loved ones.
The soon-to-be husband and wife, you see, are keeping shtum about their impending nuptials but Marie’s presence in their home leaves them with little opportunity to plan their big day.
Ultimately, Leela and Joel settle on a plan of action, resolving to invite all of their friends to a special lunch – that will turn out to be a surprise wedding!
Liberty Savage (Jessamy Stoddart) is roped in to play a surprise song at the wedding but, over a manicure, she accidentally slits slip to Marie that Joel and Leela are engaged – and it’s safe to that say Marie is livid!
A showdown ensues between Leela and Marie, with a slap included. Fed up of her behaviour, Leela throws Marie out and, afterwards, she finds herself an unlikely confidante in Cleo.
Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell), meanwhile, is fuming that her mum didn’t tell her that the lunch is, in fact, a wedding – not to mention the fact that a number of other villagers knew more than she did!
Cleo sees Joel on the city walls and has a word while Abe and Marie are both left suspicious of the former lovers.
Determined to have her say, Marie tells Abe that Leela simply isn’t right for Joel, while Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) pleads with Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) to allow him a day off duty so that he can spend time with his loved ones before the court case.
The guests – Ste included – arrive at The Dog while Joel and Leela reconcile, ready to exchange their vows and rings and say ‘I do’.
Marie, however, arrives at the venue – and she’s got a big spanner to throw in the works! The question is: just what does she have to say? And what’s more will the wedding still go ahead?
