Chicago PD has spent most of season 11 focused on the capture of a mysterious serial killer. He’s claimed multiple victims, including one who was near and dear to the heart of IU leader Hank Voight (Jason Beghe). The stakes are personal, but the promo for the penultimate episode, “Inventory,” suggests that the serial killer has a leg up on the IU.

The promo for “Inventory,” sees Voight pull in a witness for questioning, only to have her claim that the serial killer they’re looking for is actually a cop. She doesn’t just say it, either, she screams it from her interrogation room.

IU is chasing a killer who may be a cop

It doesn’t look as though the witness is going to make it out of this situation alive, given that NBC press photos see her being dragged away by police after seemingly being shot. If what she says is true, though, then the IU are going to have to tighten their circle.

Voight literally tells the rest of the team to “not trust police,” before the TV promo hard cuts to Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) pointing a gun at a uniform officer. Chicago PD is no stranger to corrupt antics, especially when its being perpetrated by Voight and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), but this is a new level of conspiracy and corruption.

This is especially the case when information about the serial killer gets leaked to the public. It’s unclear who gets the word out, but this effectively means the IU have to contend with citizens who are panicky and unpredictable, in addition to a serial killer who may know every one of the protocols they’re using to find them.

Jason Beghe told TV Insider that Voight is going to be forced to confront his demons in tracking this serial killer down, especially given that the latter claimed the life of his friend, Noah. “He’s becoming aware more than ever, which is an interesting kind of exercise for me as an actor,” he noted. “He’s just doing what he thinks is right, and he hasn’t figured out or even stopped to think.”

We can’t wait to find out who the serial killer is, and how their identity ultimately impacts Upton’s decision to leave the IU for good.
