Chicago PD had a lot to check off its list in season 11. There was the fate of Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), who had been kidnapped, and the future of Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), who decided to leave the IU and get a fresh start. This meant that the resident couple of PD took a backseat.
Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) got engaged early on in season 11, after an absolutely harrowing couple of years for both characters. They seem healthier than ever, and happier, which is a relief given the tragedies that have befallen the rest of the IU team.
The Burzek wedding episode hasn’t been written yet
Everybody wants to see a Chicago PD wedding, especially since the last time characters on the show got hitched, there was a private ceremony. The prospective Burzek wedding is the biggest plot thread heading into season 12, and as such, PD showrunner Gwen Sigan is eager to share with fans.
Sigan told TV Line that the wedding has yet to be written, but is confident that it’ll be an iconic PD event. She also made it clear that the specific time frame for the wedding has not yet been nailed down:
“I think it’ll be fun. There’s definitely a possibility of, ‘Are we going to do the wedding next year? Are we going to do the planning? What are we going to see?’ So, I’m excited to figure out all of that.”
It’s unclear whether Burzek will opt for a big wedding
The showrunner was careful not to reveal too much about the show’s wedding plans, but she did bring up a few points about Burgess and Ruzek that are worth taking into account. Most notably, the role that their daughter, Makayla (Ramona Edith Williams), will play.
“I think about Makayla and that she’s going to be a part of all those conversations and wanting to be a part of [the ceremony],” Sigan asserted. “And Ruzek has this big family and all these friends… Is he going to want to do the whole thing? You could see them go either way. There’s probably a good middle ground there.”
Regardless of how it goes down, we’re confident that it’s going to be a Chicago PD highlight.
