The Chicago Fire actor takes fans inside the “magical, special” event.
The Stellaride wedding during the Chicago Fire Season 10 finale was one for the books. Fans have been waiting for it for a while now, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. If you need a refresher, Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) decided to move their wedding up after realizing waiting for the day was just causing more fear and anxiety. And as luck would have it, another wedding canceled at the last minute, giving them their dream venue. But when that wedding abruptly was un-canceled, Stellaride was left without a place to say, “I do.”
That is, until Casey (Jesse Spencer)—who returned for the finale with Brett (Kara Killmer)—found a boat with just enough space for the wedding. So Stellaride tied the knot literally on water in a surprising, gorgeous wedding that delighted everyone. Now, we just have to wait until Season 11’s premiere (on Wednesday, September 21 at 9/8c on NBC) to see what happens with the couple.
Until then, though, Kinney is spilling some tea about what it was like filming the wedding. “It did feel like a real wedding,” Kinney says in the NBC video, above. “It was a lot of fun shooting the Stellaride wedding…It was pretty magical, it was pretty special.”
Kinney says he actually didn’t see Mayo in her dress before filming the ceremony scene: “I know hearing stories about people saying the first time they see their bride, so it was neat seeing her walk up with Boden (Eamonn Walker). She looked beautiful, the dress was beautiful.” (Remember, Chief Boden walked Kidd down the aisle!)
“The characters have been together for maybe four years and change; that’s close to 80 episodes,” Kinney continues. “So it’s been a long time coming.”
Also a long time coming: Casey’s return to the show. “We have characters [in the Season 10 finale] that we haven’t seen in a while,” Kinney says. “Casey was Severide’s best man. So it was a communal, family affair, and it was a great way to end the season.”
