A medic got fired on Chicago Fire (and you won’t guess which one)

We didn’t see this turn of events coming at all.

Chicago Fire always knows how to pull the rug out from under viewers. It’s been excruciatingly tough to find a replacement for Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer). There’s been two medics that have stepped up in her absence. One was awful, and has ulterior motives, and the other has been hesitant to commit to a full time position with Firehouse 51. One was immediately transferred, the other is still around.

We’re talking, of course, about Jared Lennox (Wesam Keesh) and Lyla Novak (Jocelyn Hudon). It’s been a clear cut path forward for both characters, but the most recent Chicago Fire episode, “Under Pressure,” has really put things in a new perspective.

It seemed as though the show was setting up the viewer to be disappointed by the fact that Novak would be leaving, but nope! Instead, Lennox returned and continued to wreak havoc.

SPOILERS ahead for “Under Pressure”

Firehouse 51 was called out to rescue the victims of a building fire, and upon getting there, Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) realizes that Lennox is also present. He continued to prove himself a poor excuse for a medic, as he didn’t even look over one of the victims before picking him up and trying to carry him out of the building.

Sure enough, Lennox’s carelessness had consequences. The man he tried to help wound up in bad shape at the hospital. He had to be incubated as a result of Lennox’s actions, and Severide decided to bite the bullet and report the medic to Chief Robinson (Laura Allen).

Now Robinson was the one who planted Lennox at 51 in the first place, in an attempt to thwart Violet (Hanako Greensmith), so Severide was expecting pushback. Then, a bizarre thing occured. Robinson gave Severide what he wanted. She turned around and fired Jared Lennox on the spot. She was even nice to Severide when he asked!

Things came full circle at the end of the episode, when Lennox showed up to warn Severide of what was coming. He claimed that Chief Robinson is angling to take over for the soon to be retired Deputy Commissioner Barnes, and if Severide wants to do something about it, he’s going to have to act quick. Lennox has never been a trustworthy guy, but it seems like a legitimate tip.

The Chief Robinson saga is far from over, even if Lennox’s career is.
