Chicago Fire alum Troy Winbush joins the cast of Suits spinoff

The actor will be joining the anticipated LA-based series.

Troy Winbush is joining a reinvigotated TV franchise. The veteran actor has been cast in Suits: LA, which will be the first spinoff of the long-running USA Network drama Suits (2011-19). Suits had an enormous boost on Netflix recently, which has led to renewed interest and exciting opportunities to expand its world.

According to Deadline, Winbush will be playing a former FBI agent named Kevin. He will exist in a guest star capacity during the pilot episode, but if the show does indeed get picked up, he will be promoted to series regular. Winbush’s character is said to an old friend of protagonist Ted Black (Stephen Amell).

Winbush has an impressive TV resume, dating back to his time as Denny on The Cosby Show (1987-91), but procedural fans will always think of him as Detective Seth Pryma during Chicago Fire seasons 10 and 11.

Pryma was the rare police officer who dictated storylines outside of Chicago PD, and his time on the show coincided with a particularly dangerous period for Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney). The firefighter told Pryma about drugs he uncovered in a burning fuel truck, which started a domino effect that led to the arrest of a disgraced ex-cop named Danny Kavanaugh (Brandon Paul Eells).

Tensions arose between Pryma and Severide, however, because the former wanted to cut a deal with Kavanaugh in exchange for information and the latter wanted to see ex-cop get locked up. Especially after Kavanaugh put out a hit on Severide and his wife, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo).

Pryma wasn’t a bad guy, per say, but his callousness towards Severide in terms of his personal safety did make somewhat unlikeable to audiences. It’s easy to imagine a world in which he takes the whole situation more seriously, and Severide and Kidd AREN’T nearly attacked and killed during their honeymoon.

Pryma was last seen in the season 11 episode “Something for the Pain.” There hasn’t been any mention of him since, and since Winbush’s has made the jump to Suits: LA, it’s safe to assume we won’t be hearing from or seeing his Chicago Fire character anytime soon.
