Chicago Fire announces start date for season 13 production (and it’s soon!)

We’re relieved the wait won’t be as long as last time.

Chicago Fire is the One Chicago show that underwent the most changes as of late. The season 12 finale saw multiple characters get promoted, characters hinting at the start of families, and some who claimed to be long-lost family members of others.

There will be plenty to unpack in season 13, and we’re thrilled to report that production on the next season will start up this summer. Chicago Fire, like most shows, suffered as a result of the Hollywood strikes, and subsequently had to delay the release of season 12. There was a staggering eight month gap between seasons, which felt like an eternity.

Chicago Fire will start filming again in July

Fortunately, we won’t have to wait nearly as long for season 13. According to Screen Magazine, the show will start up production again on July 19. This will make it the second of the One Chicago titles to film its new season, as Chicago PD will start two days prior, and Chicago Med will start towards the end of the month, on July 29.

The sooner the better as far as we’re concerned. This start date means that Chicago Fire and the rest of the franchise will air in its usual September period, which is a far cry from the near year we had to wait last time. Fire showrunner Andrea Newman talked about season 13, and the various cliffhangers the show has yet to resolve, during a recent interview with CinemaBlend.

The showrunner admitted that she and the writers have general resolutions in mind when they shot the season 12 finale, but part of the fun for them is piecing together the next chapter during the off season:

“We have general plans and then you start getting into the nitty gritty once you gather back up for the season, and we always know – when there are cliffhangers especially – how we want those to land.”

A summer production also means production stills and teaser posts from the cast and crew, so Fire fans are going to be living well!
