Chicago Fire boss reveals that Severide will go ‘missing’ in season 12
Kelly Severide can’t seem to stay in one place for very long.
That’s right, folks. Another Chicago Fire storyline in which Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) is nowhere to be found. It’s been tough to get a firm grasp on the character throughout season 12, since so many of his arcs involve him doing work outside of the Windy City.
The trend is going to continue in the upcoming eleventh episode of the season, but with a twist. Instead of an episode about characters missing Severide, or being unsure as to whether he would return to the 51, the episode will be about Severide seemingly disappearing, and the mad dash to figure out where he went.
Severide (and a fire rig) will disappear in 12×11
Chicago Fire showrunner Gwen Sigan spilled the beans on the upcoming episode, which is still untitled but is slated to be the second-to-last release of season 12. She described it as a “self-contained thriller” that will see the 51 team join forces to make sense out of an inexplicable case.
Sigan told TV Line that the episode is going to be led by Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), which makes sense given her proximity to Severide, and how concerned she’d likely be if he vanished into thin air:
“It starts with a shock — Kidd walks out to the apparatus floor in the middle of the night to see one of the rigs is missing, and Severide’s phone sits alone on the squad table.”
Stella Kidd will be on a ‘mission’ to find him
It sounds like a Twilight Zone episode, which is what makes it such a unique change of pace for Chicago Fire. The show generally prides itself on being a grounded representation of cases that real firefighters have to contend with, but we have to admit that such a bizarre premise is intriguing.
Even more intriguing is the fact that Kidd will get a chance to put on the investigator hat that her husband has been sporting for the past couple years. Kidd doesn’t often get a chance to show off this particular side of her firefighting prowess, and Sigan assures us that the character isn’t going to be messing around:
“No one else is in sight. What the hell is going on? Stella Kidd is a warrior on a mission to find out…”
We also hope, of course, that Severide is discovered and is able to resume his duties at the 51.
