Chicago Fire Brings in a New Character for the Price of Booting a Newbie

You have to make some room to fill it, but Chicago Fire takes it too literally.

Everyone says that you should play to its strengths, however, we’re not sure Chicago Fire wants to listen. With the overwhelming number of cast leaves, additions, and overall changes lately, the show’s fans are understandably frustrated. Meanwhile, the showrunners are more than happy to keep up this unholy rotation of new actors.

Just now, we have one six-episode-old newcomer already leaving, and a new star making her way into the recurring (possibly regular later) cast. Who are they?

Rome Flynn Leaves Chicago Fire

Rome Flynn, the Derrick Gibson actor who only just joined the cast six episodes ago, is already gone by now. In last week’s episode, Gibson had a withdrawal-induced breakdown because of his prescription drugs and told Stella he was leaving Firehouse 51 to enter treatment. Reasonable for a person; frustrating for the show.

The man hadn’t been around for half the season at that point. Many Chicago Fire fans can’t wrap their heads around the colossal waste of screen time Gibson’s introduction turned out to be, and we get that… But to cheer you up, we’ve heard an interesting theory: Gibson’s sole purpose was to establish where Kylie worked so that she could later join Firehouse 51 and fill his spot. This sounds better, doesn’t it?

Jocelyn Hudon Joins the Cast

At the same time, we’re expecting a new addition this week: Jocelyn Hudon was cast in Chicago Fire as a new paramedic for Firehouse 51. Scheduled for arrival next episode, she might just relieve the audience of the pain of dealing with Lennox, Chief Robinson’s good lap dog — but we’re not sure whether the latter will leave just yet.

Jocelyn Hudon’s character is described as a party girl who takes a bit to have Violet warm up to her. We share many fans’ hopes that the new paramedic will have a great relationship with Violet and Stella and fill the void Sylvie left behind. At this point, Hudon joins Chicago Fire as a recurring cast member but she’s got an option to become a regular, so here’s to hoping.
