Chicago Fire keeps Severide involved with steamy (NSFW!) subplot

Not the sort of development we expected on the firefighting drama!

Yes, Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) is still gone, but he’s definitely not forgotten. Chicago Fire kicked off the episode “On the Hook” with a bachelorette party for one Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer), and while Brett was the center of attention, Severide got pulled into the party in an unexpected way.

For one, the women attending the party really went for it. The likes of Brett, Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith), and Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) were extremely hungover at work the next day, but the real revelation was what they decided to send via text.

Kidd sent Severide photos during a bachelorette party

All of the women were afraid to check their phones, fearing they sent nude photos to the men in their lives. Violet panicked and failed to remember whether she sent photos to Sam Carver (Jake Lockett), but it turned out the be a false alarm. The women who actually did go through with her nude message was the only married one in the bunch, Kidd!

The kicker? Severide responded! The character is notoriously difficult to get ahold of when he’s on the road, especially when its with the ATF, but he found time to respond to Kidd’s seductive photos in the middle of the night.

Kidd even points out that Severide usually takes a long time to respond to her text messages, but now she knows that all she has to do to get his attention is to send him photos. It’s played for a bit of a laugh, but it also gets at a larger Kidd and Severide issue that season 12 has been teasing.

There are more Stellaride issues in store

The two characters are extremely attracted to each other, as evidenced by the very first scene in the season 12 premiere, in which they have sex in a shower, but when it comes to making big decisions, and keeping the lines of communication open, they struggle.

The rest of “On the Hook” diverges from the Severide and Kidd subplot to focus on Brett, who is gearing up to leave Chicago Fire, but it’s telling that the one piece of Stellaride information we get in the episode suggests that there are things they’re going to have to work on if they want to make it as a couple long-term.
