The former Truck 81 lieutenant made his return to Firehouse 51 as part of the Department of Homeland Security in Oregon after recognizing potential domestic terror attacks across the United States. Not long after that brief stint, however, he appears to be back in the Windy City for a surprise appearance in the Chicago Fire season 11 finale.Per the Twitter account, Brettsey Daily, Spencer has been spotted on the set of the Chicago Fire season 11 finale in costume as Casey. The official synopsis for the Chicago Fire season 11 finale, “Red Waterfall,” doesn’t mention anything about Casey being back at Firehouse 51. Disappointingly, it also doesn’t have any update about Kelly Severide’s awaited return after Taylor Kinney’s unexpected temporary leave of absence in the middle of the season.
Why Jesse Spencer’s Matt Casey Is Back So Quickly In Chicago Fire Season 11 Finale
As an original cast member, losing Spencer was difficult for Chicago Fire. It was, however, the actor’s decision to leave One Chicago after a decade of spearheading the franchise because he wanted to relocate back to Australia with his family. The fact that he has returned twice since his official exit proves that he maintains a good relationship with his former co-workers. This also makes Casey’s full-time return more possible, especially if Kinney’s Severide permanently leaves Chicago Fire.
While there is no mention of Casey in the Chicago Fire season 11 finale’s official synopsis, it actually hints at his involvement. It teases Stella Kidd’s breakthrough on the case that she and Casey are working on in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security. Since it’s Casey who recruited Kidd to the cause, it only makes sense that he follows things up with her after her discovery.
Aside from work-related issues, perhaps Casey’s Chicago Fire return can finally address the status of his relationship with Sylvie Brett. While the pair has already broken up, it’s clear that they still have feelings for each other. Regardless of what the future holds for them, it’s best if Chicago Fire gives them a definitive future, once and for all.
