A new photo of Chicago Fire season 12 puts the spotlight on Blake Gallo’s replacement, revealing a character that’s played by a familiar face.
A new photo from Chicago Fireseason 12 reveals Blake Gallo’s replacement. It was announced in December that Alberto Rosende would be exiting the role of Gallo in Chicago Fire season 12, which he’s portrayed since season 4. Blake gives his farewell in the episode “Barely Gone”, moving to Michigan to spend time with his aunt to build on the previous discovery that he has extended family. His departure leaves a spot open that the NBC drama will be filling very soon.
TV Insider has now shared an image of Rome Flynn from an upcoming episode of Chicago Fire season 12, making his debut as Derrick Gibson.
Flynn will make his debut in the January 24 episode, which is titled “Call Me McHolland.” The character he plays will begin as a recurring guest, though he could potentially become a series regular moving forward.
What To Know About Chicago Fire Season 12’s New Character
Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman confirmed the new character’s name change to TV Insider. Initially named Jake Gibson, that’s since been changed to Derrick Gibson as a way of honoring One Chicago co-creator Derek Haas, who has since left the NBC franchise to work on other projects. Broadly, Gibson is described as being a “quietly confident former amateur boxer with a dark past.” He’s physically fit and fearless, gaining attention thanks to a heroic act.
Gibson makes an impression after helping Lieutenant Stella Kidd (Miranda Ray Mayo) to save one of the team. This will lead Kidd to push for him to join the team. But given the description that highlights Gibson’s dark past, there remain questions about whether the new arrival is a good fit for the team. Newman teases that these questions will gradually reveal themselves.
As an actor, Flynn is known for playing Gabriel Maddox on the ABC crime drama How to Get Away with Murder. More recently, Flynn had a lead role in the Prime Video romantic comedy series With Love and recurred on Grey’s Anatomy season 18 as Wendell Ndugu, the younger brother of Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill). He’s a familiar face on the small screen that will usher in change for Chicago Fireseason 12, which is also losing longtime cast member Kara Killmer.
