Chicago Fire Season 14: Is It Happening? Here’s Everything We Know
Chicago Fire helped launch the popular One Chicago series on NBC, but will the fire procedural be renewed for season 14? Developed by TV guru Dick Wolfe, Chicago Fire follows the brave men and women of the city’s Firehouse 51, and sees firefighters and emergency medical personnel tackle some of the biggest disasters the Midwestern metropolis has ever faced. Quickly spawning companion shows (Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med), Chicago Fire proved to be another instant success for Dick Wolf on NBC, and has been on the air for nearly a decade and a half to date.
The show’s landmark 13th season has been filled with change, and Chicago Fire is entering a new era following the departure of Chief Wallace Boden (played by Eamonn Walker). Dermot Mulroney’s Chief of Police Dom Pascal has stepped into Boden’s shoes, but his leadership style has been frustrating for the Firehouse 51 team from the start. This state of flux puts season 14 in a unique position, but there’s still plenty that can happen in season 13 to shape the future of this beloved procedural. Despite all that, NBC has yet to renew Chicago Fire for season 14.
With the latest season still so fresh, it’s no surprise that NBC has yet to announce the fate of Chicago Fire season 14. However, with such a popular series, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before the entire One Chicago series is renewed. NBC has picked up all three shows for additional, shorter seasons starting in 2024, and it’s clear that the Hollywood strikes of 2023 haven’t dampened One Chicago’s popularity.
With all that in mind, NBC will likely wait until midseason to renew Chicago Fire for season 14, and viewership numbers will likely make the decision pretty easy for the network. Fire has consistently ranked in the top 10 in network ratings for the past five seasons (according to The Hollywood Reporter), and the anticipation surrounding season 13 will likely put it in the top five. A full season 13 could improve the chances of a 14th season, especially after the truncated 12th season.
After the tumultuous changes to Chicago Fire’s cast between seasons 12 and 13, it’s likely things will remain more stable heading into season 14. Newcomer Dermot Mulroney has been tapped to lead the team as Team Leader Dom Pascal, and while his style doesn’t fit the team, the popular actor is likely to return. Likewise, fan favorite Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) will also be around after making a surprise full-time return in season 12.
Jocelyn Hudon’s paramedic Lyla Novak was upgraded to a recurring character in season 13 to fill the void left by Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer), and she’ll likely continue to be a part of the team. The same goes for the likes of David Eigenberg’s Lieutenant Christopher Herrmann and Miranda Rae Mayo’s Stella Kidd, who will continue to be regulars on the procedural.
A number of different threads are expected to wrap up before season 13 ends, and the season could end on a cliffhanger that will leave viewers wanting more
Predicting plot details for Chicago Fire season 14 is both difficult and easy, as the procedural elements have been consistent year after year. As such, season 14 will see the crew of Firehouse 51 respond to a variety of life-threatening emergencies while trying to balance work and personal life. Many of the threads are expected to wrap up before season 13 ends, and the season could end with a bang that will leave viewers wanting more. However, until more information is released, those details remain a mystery.
