Chicago Fire’s newest ship might be in for a rocky journey (here’s why)
Will the pair’s past issues threaten their happiness?
Chicago Fire season 12 episode 3 “Trapped” treated fans to a new couple to root for when Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) and Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith) kissed. To some, it was a surprise; to others, it had been a long time coming.
Carver and Violet’s attraction to each other did not begin in the episode but earlier in season 11 when Carver put his general handyman skills to use and offered to fix Violet’s light bulb. Violet caught herself staring a little too long but didn’t think much of it.
On different occasions, Violet caught glimpses of Carver, including Carver in nothing but a towel, and her reaction told all.
Violet and Sam Carver finally hooked up
Their story picked up on the season 12 premiere episode when Sylvie Brett (Kara Kilmer) suggested that they go to Sylvie’s wedding as a pair. Violet put up a protest and started acting weird which is common behavior for Violet if she likes someone. She did the same with Gallo (Alberto Rosende).
“Trapped” saw them finally jump into the deep end and share a kiss which was exciting for their fans who had not anticipated it to happen this soon, if ever.
It is concerning, however, how this new relationship will progress because some issues about the characters are yet to be addressed, and however they are addressed it might not be pretty.
Carver previously had feelings for Stella Kidd
One of the most surprising developments in season 11 was when Carver realized that he had romantic feelings for Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo). This would bring a lot of complications given that Stella is Carver’s superior, and she’s married.
This season has not addressed how he feels and it has presented him as being lax and jovial, a contrasting image to Carver from a season ago.
It would be a fair assumption that even if six months have passed between seasons, Carver might harbor feelings for Stella still. With Severide away constantly, this might embolden Carver to make a move. The residual feelings he might be harboring would be a major complication for his budding romance with Violet.
Violet has reservations about dating a fellow first responder
Whenever most of these characters respond to an emergency, their lives are at risk. Even if they don’t let these fears get in the way of their duty, their loved ones don’t share the same luxury. Every day some wait with bated breath to hear news about the worst thing that could happen.
It is a reality Violet lived when Evan Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas), who was not even supposed to be at risk, died while on a call. Who can forget the burning theatre crashing down on him? Definitely not Violet. Losing Evan was devastating for Violet and she spent a long time lost in grief.
Once bitten, twice shy. Violet confessed to Sylvie that she had serious reservations about dating another first responder because she didn’t want a repeat of what happened with Evan.
The feelings Carver and Violet harbor might be a big stumbling block for their romance. They might wake up the following day and realize it was all the alcohol talking. But if they decide to pursue something more, it might not be pretty.
