Who will Luke Mitchell play on Chicago Med?

As of now, the actor will portray Dr. Mitch Ripley, though the character name is subject to change between now and the season premiere. Ripley is an ER doc with a dicy past who also knows Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt). Mitchell will make his first appearance on the show in the Season 9 premiere on January 17 and is slated for more episodes in the season.

“Dr Mitch Ripley coming at ya early 2024! 😉 #ChicagoMed @nbc,” Mitchell wrote on Instagram following the announcement of his casting.

Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. are renewed for the 2023-2024 season. One Chicago creator Dick Wolf is thrilled about the renewal, which includes all three Law & Order series, as well.

“I’m pleased to continue my four-decade relationship with Universal Television and NBC,” Wolf said in a statement. “All six shows being picked up again is the ultimate accolade to our incredible casts, producers, and writers. I’d also like to thank our loyal fans who have kept our NBC shows on the air for what will be a cumulative 84 seasons.”

Mitchell is 38, Australian, and like many actors from Down Under, got his start on Aussie soaps. He’s been married to fellow actor Rebecca Breeds for ten years, and the pair share an adorable dog named Alfie.

Mitchell has had roles on a number of hit series. He played Lincoln Campbell on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Roman Briggs on NBC’s Blindspot, Ken on Legacies and Cormac Barnes on Big Sky, where he worked with The Voice Coach Reba McEntire.

Chicago Med' Adds New Cast Member for Season 9: Who Is Luke Mitchell?

Blindspot fans will recognize Mitchell from his role as Roman in the NBC drama. He appeared on the show in seasons 2-5.

Mitchell, who is Australian, has also played Cormac Barnes in season 3 of ABC’s Big Sky, Ken in The CW’s Legaciesand Danny Cooper in The Republic of Sarah. His other credits include the 2023 Hallmark Channel movie A Pinch of Portugal, the 2021 Tom Clancy adaption Without Remorse, The Code, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and The Tomorrow People. In Australia, he’s appeared on the soaps Home and Away and Neighbors.

It’s an impressive resume for someone who didn’t initially set out to become an actor.

“Initially, I never dreamed of becoming an actor,” Mitchell told Collider in 2021. “The way I got into acting was just about improving myself. It was just about self-development. And so, I never really had any expectations. The fact that I got any professional work at all was incredible to me.”

He was even more stunned when he transitioned from working in Australia to pursuing roles in Hollywood.

“There’s such a big transition from being an Aussie actor playing Aussie roles, to being an Aussie actor playing an American character in an American show,” he said. “The stakes are higher, there’s more money, and there’s more pressure. So, it’s been an evolving process. I also recognize how difficult it is, being an actor and having consistent work. I’m so incredibly grateful for each and every job that I’ve had that. It’s just one foot in front of the other.”
