Dani and Bill’s War Goes Public, While Naomi Quietly Decides Her Fate With Jacob!

With Nicole’s awards gala just days away, it’s time for the entire Dupree family to meet the press. Anita and Vernon intend to handle any difficult questions about Dani’s recent incarceration, and she promises to let them do so.

But not everybody is in the mood to talk. Things are still super tense for Jacob and Naomi, who remains furious with her husband for agreeing to arrest Dani. She already had trust issues with men, thanks to being raised by Bill, and now she doesn’t know if she can trust Jacob. “Right now, I don’t recognize the man that I married,” she says, despite him insisting that he was just doing his job.

Bill vs. Dani: A Tale of Two Interviews

After catching wind of the Duprees’ impending interview, Bill arranges a press conference of his own at the firm. With “nothing to hide,” he fields questions from a throng of vultures. He says he invited the Duprees to his wedding to show that even exes can be respectful, but he also believes that Dani is mentally unstable.

Dani’s attempted murder charges indeed come up, but Vernon says they have nothing more to add. “We don’t condone Dani’s behavior, but we certainly understand what drove her to it,” Anita says. “Next question!”

Then the reporter brings up Bill’s assertion that Dani is mentally deteriorating, prompting the woman of the hour to crash the interview and defend herself. While Bill spends his press conference painting Dani as a “violent and dangerous monster,” Dani remains calm, cool and collected during her own interview, insisting that she poses a threat to no one.

Jacob and Naomi Patch Things Up

After the interview, Dani tells Naomi not to hold a grudge against Jacob for arresting her. “Don’t let my mistake cost you the love of a lifetime,” she tells her daughter. “He’s one of the good ones. Stop pushing him away.”

Little do they know, Jacob’s marital woes are about to become the least of his problems. He meets his new partner, Detective Marcel Malone, who makes quite the first impression. “You’re going to keep your nose clean and out of my business,” he tells Jacob. “Otherwise, you’re going to wish you’ve never met me.”

Marcel even brings up Dani’s arrest, telling Jacob to clean up his home life so it doesn’t affect him on the job and potentially endanger them both. “You done?” Jacob asks, calling Marcel a “smart ass” on his way out of the precinct. Oh, these two are going to get along swimmingly.

At least Jacob does manage to patch things up with Naomi before the end of the hour. “I’m not Bill,” he reminds her. “I would never in a million years treat you like that sorry excuse of a man did.” And just like that, Jacob is officially upgraded from couch back to bed.

Leslie Warns Eva, Somewhat Hypocritically

Leslie and Eva catch up over dinner, where Eva reveals that she spoke with Ted about the father she never knew. Leslie tells Eva to be careful, reminding her that she’s playing a dangerous game… as if Leslie wasn’t just on the roof of the hospital with Ted’s wife. If anyone should be warned about taking things too far, it’s Leslie.

Eva rightly calls Leslie out for her own questionable actions, but Leslie doubles down. “The difference is that I have a plan,” she says. (Sure, lady, whatever you say.)

Tomás Makes His Move on Kat

Back at the firm, Tomás asks Bill for his permission to date Kat. He expects some pushback, but Bill is surprisingly chill about it. “You want to play with fire? Be my guest,” Bill tells him.

While they discuss Kat’s romantic prospects, Kat grills Chelsea about her own. Kat is fully supportive of Chelsea being bisexual, or however she chooses to identify, but she can’t get down with the idea of a throuple. “I’m more of a Michelle looking for her Barack,” Kat says.

Tomás wastes no time calling Kat, who offers to cook him dinner when she’s back from her next business trip.

Dani and Bill’s War Wages On

Back at Dupree Manor, Vernon and Anita celebrate a successful day in the battlefield. They agree that Dani should take pride in how things turned out, with Vernon adding, “We definitely won this round.”

But maybe they shouldn’t start celebrating just yet. Between Bill obsessively Googling news about Dani, and Dani angrily dropping her phone into a gin and tonic just to watch a video of him flicker out, this war has only just begun.
