Former Hollyoaks star Danny Mac lands new soap role

He’s headed to Letherbridge.

Former Hollyoaks star Danny Mac has landed a new soap role.

Danny will begin a guest stint in the BBC One soap Doctors starting next Thursday (May 30) and will appear again the following Monday (June 3).

He has been cast as the new character Hugo Carleton, after previously appearing in Doctors in 2020 as a psychologist using his patients’ trauma as part of an escape room experiment.

In that previous episode, Danny starred with Doctors regulars Adrian Lewis Morgan (Jimmi Clay) and Ian Midlane (Al Haskey) — both of whom will be part of this new storyline for his new character Hugo.

Danny is best known for his four-year stint in Hollyoaks as Sienna Blake’s twin brother Dodger Savage before leaving the show in 2015.

He soon joined the cast of Strictly Come Dancing, where he finished in second place with professional partner Oti Mabuse behind winners Ore Oduba and Joanne Clifton.

The actor has also guest starred in Sky One comedy Trollied and appeared in the West End in the revival of White Christmas.

Meanwhile, the BBC recently announced that it would be axing Doctors after 23 years on the air following the conclusion of its current season.

The BBC blamed financial strain for its decision to end Doctors, even as unions Writers’ Guild of Great Britain (WGGB) and Equity have said the show’s cancellation will be “detrimental” to the entertainment industry in the Midlands (where the series is set).

Doctors‘ filming officially ended back in March, with star Elisabeth Dermot Walsh saying the cast were “devastated” by the show’s cancellation.

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.
