Has Voight dated anyone on Chicago PD since his wife died?

The veteran cop has a difficult time opening up to others.

Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) has been through a lot. Granted, that’s an understatement. The Chicago PD lead has suffered the death of his son, Justin (Josh Segarra), at the hand of vicious criminals, and the death of his wife, Camille, well before the show even started.

It initially seemed as though Camille died from cancer, but in the season 3 episode “Now I’m God”, it was revealed that she died as result of being given unnecessary chemotherapy treatments by a serial killer doctor named Dean Reybold (Jeremy Shamos).

Camille’s death has obviously had a profound impact on Voight, but Chicago PD has been on the air for over a decade, and several of the show’s characters have gone on to have different romantic arcs. The question we want to delve into is whether Voight has officially dated someone since he became a widower.

Sadly, the answers appears to be no. Voight has had chemistry with several women officers who have crossed paths with him, like Law & Order: SVU protagonist Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), as well as criminal informants like Anna Avalos (Carmela Zumbado). For one reason or another, though, things fail to progress.

In the case of the former, Benson was dating someone, and in the case of the latter, Voight’s decision to withhold information led to a falling out and a vengeful retaliation from Avalos that resulted in her death. We’re not saying this connections would have led to Voight’s happily-ever-after, but they do represent the women he’s been closest to since Camille passed.

Voight’s commitment to his job is the most important thing in his life, but fans have spent years pushing for the character to pursue something romantic. There’s an obvious hesitance on his part to be as vulnerable as he was with Camille, given the pain that resulted from her death, but that hasn’t stopped fans for looking for potential romantic candidates.

The most recent candidate has been ADA Nina Chapman (Sara Bues). Chapman has been around for a couple of seasons, now, but is playing a more prominent role than ever in season 11, and Chicago PD showrunner Gwen Sigan told NBC that the bond between the two of them will grow stronger:

“What’s just so interesting and fun to play with is that they have a chemistry, and so far it’s been very much a work chemistry. And it’s been something that he trusts her in a lot of ways.”

Sigan played coy regarding a possible romance between Voight and Chapman, but she didn’t shut down the possibility. When asked point blank by the outlet, she simply said: “I don’t know what the hell is happening, and I don’t think [Voight] does either.”

Hopefully we all find out soon.
