Here’s what we know about the return of the show Chicago Fire.
We would love to jump into a new episode of Chicago Fire, but that isn’t happening tonight, Wednesday, May 29. The show is now on its summer break.
That’s right; the previous episode was the season 12 finale. It makes sense when you consider everything that happened. It was a big episode where we said goodbye to Eamonn Walker’s Wallce Boden. It’s not quite a permanent goodbye, though. Boden is now the Deputy Commissioner, and we’re sure to see Firehouse 51 run into him from time to time.
The question for many is how long this break is going to be. The last time we had a finale, we had to wait until the new year to get a new episode. Will that be the case this time?
Chicago Fire season 13 will premiere in fall 2024
We don’t have to wait that long at all. In fact, NBC didn’t want us to wait that long in the first place. The only reason we had to wait so long was because the writers went on strike. Then the actors followed, so all production was pushed back.
NBC has confirmed the fall 2024 schedule, and Chicago Fire is on the list. We’ll get the Chicago Fire season 13 premiere sometime in late September or early October at the very latest. NBC doesn’t tend to make us wait until October, though. The series will air on Wednesdays, as usual, in between Chicago Med and Chicago PD.
What to expect when Chicago Fire returns
The new season will see a lot of change. Boden has gone, and he told Herrmann that he wanted to see Herrmann step up as Chief. That will mean Herrmann needs to do the Captain exam and then the Chief exam, but Boden knows that Herrmann has what it takes. That’s despite Severide stepping in as acting Chief while Boden had been away.
Severide will have plenty to deal with when the show comes back, though. We finally found out Damon’s secret. He is Severide’s half-brother. At least, that’s what he says, telling Severide that his abusive father was Benny Severide. We’ve heard Benny was a drunk and was hard on Severide now and then, but not abusive, so this is going to be an interesting turn of events.
Severide also told Kidd that he wanted to start a family with her. The ball is in her court, and I hope we see an actual conversation about this. We deserve to see a couple talk about having kids and what it would mean for Kidd, who is the one carrying the baby. Severide is under no impression that Kidd won’t have to make some sacrifices, which is why he put the ball in her court.
