Hollyoaks’ Cleo McQueen is to give Abe Fielding relationship advice, after his proposal attempt ended in chaos.
Cleo has been a victim of domestic abuse at the hands of her partner Abe, in a harrowing storyline that played out over months.
After the show’s time jump, it was revealed that Abe has been keeping Cleo in a secret room in his flat for the last year, while her family and friends believe she is in Bali.
Meanwhile, in the outside world, Abe is now in a relationship with Peri, with Leela and Joel disapproving because of his abuse against Cleo.
It looked like Abe had won Leela over and she accepted him into the family, but she told Joel that she was keeping him close to keep an eye on her daughter.
Cleo was left in a critical condition when Abe went away on holiday with Peri, but when he returned, he convinced her that it was better not to call an ambulance.
Last week, Abe decided to propose to Cleo, but meanwhile, Darren told Peri that he saw Abe with a ring, so she thought he was going to pop the question to her.
Abe proposed to Cleo while she was delirious, but at that moment Peri arrived, and he bundled her into the other room.
Peri saw the romantic setting and her suspicions were confirmed, so Abe was forced to propose again to Peri this time, and she accepted.
Abe later told Cleo the truth and explained that he was just stringing Peri along until she was well again, and they could leave and start a new life together.
In scenes that will air next week, Abe notices that Peri is acting strangely, and he shares his concerns with Cleo.
Cleo tells Abe that she is happy to give him advice about his new fiancée, as she is aware that it isn’t a real relationship like theirs is.
She explains that he needs to help Peri get excited about her upcoming nuptials to keep up the pretence of the relationship – but reminds him that she will be the real bride.
