Ethan Williams (Matthew James Bailey) will find himself the subject of much discussion in Hollyoaks next week when mysterious newcomer Donny Clark (Louis Emerick) takes quite an interest in him.
Much-loved Ethan becomes a person of interest for Donny, who learns that daughter Vicky Grant (Anya Lawrence) has got a crush on The Loft owner.
Vicky, as viewers know, made her feelings quite clear last week to Ethan, who found the whole thing rather amusing but, despite his lack of interest, Vicky persists in upcoming scenes, finding a way to give Ethan her number.
After getting wind of Vicky’s crush, Donny decides to do some digging as he asks Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) all about the nightclub co-owner.
As teased in Hollyoaks’ Summer Trailer, Donny is hiding a secret, having a folder containing secret snapshots of various village residents – one being Ethan.
This scene, which has yet to air, has fuelled speculation that Donny is the mysterious Blue, who is intent on destroying Warren’s entire life. If this theory comes to pass then Ethan could certainly be in danger.
Ethan, meanwhile, is preoccupied when Vicky comes looking for a job at The Loft, with the owner agreeing to give her a trial shift.
Whether or not anything happens between the two characters remains to be seen but the Vicky storyline has had quite a reaction online from upset fans, who reckon that Ethan’s limited time left would have been better spent on a reunion with soulmate Sienna Blake (Anna Passey).
Metro confirmed last month that star Matthew James Bailey, a firm-fan favourite since his debut nearly three years ago, is sadly set to exit later this year amid all the changes coming into effect in September.
The news devastated fans of the Channel 4 soap – all the more so because Ethan hasn’t been seen much since he parted ways with Sienna last year.
He remains a popular character, however, and he certainly hasn’t lost the ability to steal even the shortest of scenes, with fans relishing his recent comedic quips and his heartfelt advice to best mate Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson).
‘amazes me how ethan will only have a few lines yet steals the scene each time anyway,’ added Josi. ‘He has so much charm & charisma’.
How exactly Ethan’s time on the show will come to an end remains to be seen but it’s safe to say that he’ll be missed.
