Hollyoaks confirms legendary character return in new opening titles – and fans will be relieved

Hollyoaks has debuted new opening titles as part of its brand next era, confirming the return of a much-loved character in the process.

The Channel 4 soap, as viewers know, has reduced its episodes from five a week to three and, in order to mark the new chapter for the serial, a time jump took audiences one year into the future.

As part of the relaunch, brand new, refreshed opening titles have been unveiled, replacing the title card which has been used for the past few weeks.

The vibrant new intro showcases the cast, which is much smaller than it was previously due to cuts, as the show’s signature characters gather in The Dog in The Pond for an evening of fun.

Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) opens the pub to Chester’s finest while Diane (Alex Fletcher) takes the stools down from the bar and gets things ready for their guests.

Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) is seen at the table with her recently-extended clan while Ethan Williams (Matthew James Bailey) joins her, handing his fiancé a rose.

Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) makes a toast with her fellow ladies, including Grace Black (Tamara Wall), Leela Dexter (Kirsty-Leigh Porter) and Sienna, before joining her clan on the dance floor for a boogie.

Fans will be delighted to catch a glimpse of Nana (Diane Langton), who has been absent from screens for quite some time.

Viewers of the long-running serial wondered if Nana would be part of the new era following the cast cuts and episode reduction – but it seems as if we had little reason to worry!

Marie Fielding (Rita Simons) also features in the titles, as does Lucas Hay (Oscar Curtis), which confirms that both characters will be mainstays of the new chapter, despite their absence in the first episode.

The new title sequence features a slowed-down version of the signature theme tune, which has been revamped by A.Skillz – who has worked on the intro since 2009.

Hollyoaks streams Mondays to Wednesdays from 7am on Channel 4’s streaming platform, or catch episodes on TV at 7pm on E4.
