Hollyoaks confirms third major death this month in brutal murder – as two more stars exit

Carter and Declan in Hollyoaks

Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Monday’s (May 20) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on Tuesday May 21 at 7pm.

Declan Hawthorne (Alan Turkington) met a grisly end after Beau Ramsey (Jon-Paul Bell) showed up to rescue Kitty Draper (Iz Hesketh), who was abducted a number of weeks ago by the conversion therapist.

Beau, as viewers know, grew concerned about Kitty’s whereabouts when she vanished with a trace earlier this month, with no-one able to get in touch with her.

Kitty, however, had been taken prisoner by evil dad Declan, who tied her to a bed and proceeded to misgender her, inflicting torment on her – much like he’d done when she was a child.

Declan, as fans know, is a so-called mentor of Carter Shepherd’s (David Ames), who had been practising conversion therapy on confused teen Lucas Hay (Oscar Curtis).

Carter was arrested last week after he attempted to drown John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) at a lake, just outside the cottage where Declan was keeping Kitty prisoner.

Beau found an old picture of Kitty outside that very same cottage and, knowing it couldn’t be a coincidence, he raced to the location, where he found Kitty tied up.

Kitty revealed what she’d endured at Declan’s hands but refused to report him, revealing that she’s not actually the real Kitty! As viewers will recall, Kitty took the name of her friend, who died in the car crash at Dee Valley Bypass in January.

Beau promised to keep shtum but things took a harrowing turn when Declan returned and attacked Beau, bludgeoning him with a book. Kitty pleaded with her dad to let her go and raced towards the door, only to find that it was locked.

Beau regained consciousness and kicked the door down, using the very same book Declan attacked him with to overpower the twisted conversion therapist. During the fall, however, Declan hit his head off the side of the bed railing.

Kitty checked his pulse, confirming that he’s head!

Carter, meanwhile, received a visit in prison from John Paul, who assured him that he will continue to live his happy and authentic life – as will Freya Calder (Ellie Henry) – as he rots away behind bars.

The headmaster was left with food for thought but, in typical Carter fashion, he reverted to his old self, with a post-credit sequence seeing him conduct a conversion therapy session with a number of inmates.

The scenes in question seemingly bring to an end the conversion therapy story, with Carter set to face a long stretch in prison while Declan is very much dead.

Lucas, meanwhile, who they attempted to ‘convert’, is finally free to be his true authentic self, having shared his first kiss with Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass), proving that – despite the two dastardly criminals’ efforts – love really can triumph over hate.

Hollyoaks streams weeknights at 7:30pm on Channel 4’s streaming platform, or catch episodes on TV at 7pm on E4.
