Hollyoaks ‘confirms’ tragedy as character reveals she is terminally ill

Martha Blake talking to Dilly in Hollyoaks

Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Monday’s (June 3) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on Tuesday May 4 at 7pm.

Martha Blake (Sherrie Hewson) claimed that she’s terminally ill when quizzed by Sienna (Anna Passey) about her motives in coming to the eponymous village.

The newcomer, as viewers know, is thought to be Sienna’s long-lost grandmother, and she made her debut last week when she crossed paths with the show’s resident schemer, telling a mystery caller that she’s ‘found’ who they’ve been looking for.

Sienna was subsequently left confused after she was mysteriously spiked, with blood having been taken from her arm, and it didn’t take long for her to put two and two together, working out that Martha was to blame.

After snooping in the newcomer’s bag, Sienna discovered that the woman in question’s surname is Blake! Monday’s edition of the show picked up the following day, with Sienna determined to get answers as she cornered Martha in the village, demanding that she come clean.

Martha stated that she’s terminally ill with cancer and therefore wants to reach out to her long-lost family members, claiming to Dilly Harcourt (Emma Johnsey-Smith) that she’s a second cousin of her grandfather.

The revelation left Dilly a little upset as she’d hoped Martha was a closer relation than that, but nonetheless she vowed to support her and get to know her.

Sienna, meanwhile, remained sceptical, knowing there was more to this than meets the eye. And her suspicions were proven correct, with Martha making a secret call, informing the person on the other end that Sienna isn’t who they thought, claiming that she herself is not related to Sienna.

The document in front of her, however, told a different story. It was the results of the DNA test, which stated that there is a 99.9999996% chance that Martha and Sienna are related.

The mystery deepens!

Sienna, meanwhile, took one final look around Harcourt manor with Dilly and Liberty Savage (Jessamy Stoddart) by her side as they moved back to the flat at 5 Oakdale Drive.

Anna Passey, who portrays Sienna, told me exclusively that her character knows full well that Martha has ulterior motives.

‘Sienna is really unsure about Martha,’ she told Metro.co.uk. ‘She is the only person who isn’t buying this ‘frail old lady’ act. She’s got her eye on her and knows there’s something up with her and I think Sienna is a really good judge of [character], she’s been there, done that!

‘She sees that Dilly and Liberty are being very naive, accepting Martha into the fold, but Sienna has her eye on her and knows there is more to it and doesn’t trust her. When she finds out it was her that took her blood, she obviously knows there’s something deeper coming from it.

Hollyoaks streams weeknights at 7:30pm on Channel 4’s streaming platform, or catch episodes on TV at 7pm on E4.
