Hollyoaks drops unexpected hint that much-loved TV couple will reunite as sparks fly
Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Thursday’s (August 22) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on Friday August 23 at 7pm.
After months of pleas, Hollyoaks might actually be set to give the fans what they want, with a new scene hinting at the possibility of a reunion for Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) and Ethan Williams (Matthew James Bailey).
Be still my beating heart.
The popular characters set the screen alight when they embarked on a relationship almost two years ago, winning a legion of fans along the way to become one of the Channel 4 soap’s most talked about pairings ever.
From rescuing each other from the jaws to death to covering up dead bodies – not to mention dancing their hearts out to 80s tunes (Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now will always be their jam) – Ethenna was all Hollyoaks fans could talk about for the best part of a year.
The much-loved duo frustratingly split last year when their plot to con Rafe Harcourt (Chris Gordon) out of his millions backfired dramatically, with Sienna developing feelings for the terminally ill Earl.
There was quite clearly unfinished business there, which felt like it was destined to revisited at some stage given just how loved Ethan and Sienna were as a couple.
A year on, however, and they seem no closer to reuniting, with Sienna entangled in a contentious storyline that saw her long-lost uncle turn out to be her dad, while Ethan is embroiled in an even more contentious and quite bizarre storyline involving Vicky Grant (Anya Lawrence).
But a glimmer of Ethenna hope materialised on Thursday, as Ethan crossed paths with Sienna on the village’s signature bridge – and suddenly it was 2022 again.
The chemistry sizzled as Ethan correctly guessed Sienna’s coffee order, which put a smile on her face as they discussed Dilly Harcourt’s (Emma Johnsey-Smith) recent engagement to Prince McQueen (Malique Thomspon-Dwyer).
‘Me and Dilly are ancient history’, said Ethan with a smile. ‘Besides, if I was planning on revisiting the past, I’m not sure your sister would be top of my list’.
Swoon.
Sienna couldn’t help but return his smile, as Ethan concluded his previous sentiment with ‘not even close’, with the former flames holding each other’s gaze for an extended moment.
Is the reunion that we’ve longed for actually on the cards after all? I for one certainly hope so, though unfortunately there’s more to come for Ethan and Vicky, with the two circling each other once more next week.
The good news, however, is that we’ve got yet another Ethan and Sienna scene to look forward to, with the latter taking an interest in the former’s alleged closeness with Vicky.
Let’s just hope there’s more to come.
If a reunion does come to pass, however, it’ll be a short-lived one as Metro confirmed the devastatingly sad news that Matthew James Bailey, who plays Ethan, is set to exit the show amid all the ongoing cast changes to facilitate the time jump next month.
Cupid had better hurry up and work his magic then, am I right?
Hollyoaks streams weeknights at 7:30pm on Channel 4’s streaming platform, or catch episodes on TV at 7pm on E4.
