Hollyoaks legend devastated as show is suddenly axed

Hollyoaks star Daisy Wood-Davis has expressed her devastation over the sudden axing of a theatre production.

The actress, best known for her role as Kim Butterfield in the Channel 4 soap, was starring alongside Coronation Street’s Catherine Tyldesley in Bonnie & Clyde The Musical.

On Tuesday, May 21, the production broke the news that the show had been axed – hours before the cast were due to begin a five-night run at Cliffs Pavillion in Southend.

The message read: ‘Bonnie & Clyde The Musical will conclude its UK & Ireland tour with immediate effect. We would like to thank the extremely hard working and endlessly talented cast and company that have entertained thousands of audience members across the country with this production.

‘Ticket holders will be contacted by their point of purchase shortly with further information.’

Now, Daisy has taken to her Instagram to respond to the news of the production coming to a sudden stop.

The star, who shared the role of Blanche Barrow with Catherine, wrote: ‘Absolutely devastated. This industry pulls some horrendous punches. I have had the time of my life the last few weeks.

‘Sending love to the whole Bonnie & Clyde team. We did not deserve this.’

Daisy Wood-Davis played the role of Kim in Hollyoaks from 2014-2018.

A few months ago, Hollyoaks cast and crew received the news the Channel 4 soap would reduce the number of episodes airing a week – from five to three.

The reduction is a direct result of research which suggests that younger audiences, Hollyoaks’ key demographic, are more inclined to watch an average of three episodes a week due to other forms of content competing for their attention.

The reduced output, however, will result in up to 135 redundancies which is thought to be round a third of Hollyoaks staff.

One of the many cast members sadly saying goodbye to Hollyoaks is Stephanie Waring, who has played Cindy Cunningham for nearly three decades.

Speaking to The Sun, Steph, 46, said she did ‘expect more loyalty after almost three decades.’

‘I was learning all week of the people who were going, and I remember crying at one of them, and I had this gut feeling that I would be too.’

She added: ‘But another part of me was thinking, “I’ve just signed a year-long contract, surely it won’t be me.” Everyone was telling me I would be fine as I’m an original character.’
