Hollyoaks legend left to drown in tragedy – as ‘baptism’ goes horribly wrong

Carter attempts to baptise John Paul in Hollyoaks

John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) will be left fighting for his life in Hollyoaks following Carter Shepherd’s (David Ames) comeback, with truly disturbing scenes set to unfold next week.

The deputy head teacher, as viewers know, was previously in a secret relationship with Carter, who was struggling with his sexuality, believing that being gay is a sin.

The high school headmaster was practising conversion therapy on a number of confused and vulnerable men when he crossed paths with John Paul, who managed to convince him to stop the archaic practice, urging him to accept who he is.

Carter, however, struggled to do so and, following a brief relationship with John Paul, he believed that he needed to repent in order to get back on God’s righteous path, with the school principal targeting pupil Lucas Hay (Oscar Curtis), who was struggling with his sexuality.

After subjecting poor Lucas to months of conversion therapy, Carter was arrested during Pride week for attempting to abduct the teen.

Things, however, take a turn in the coming week, with someone breaking into the school and writing ‘Repent’ on the whiteboard.

John Paul is certain that Carter is to blame and subsequent scenes confirm such a theory, with the much-loved character bundled into the back of a van at the hands of Gareth (Peter MacPherson), one of Carter’s victims in his conversion therapy plot.

Gareth subsequently delivers John Paul to Carter, with things set to get seriously dark at a lake. John Paul pleads for his life but Carter is too far gone now, as he tells his former lover that he’s going to baptise him.

The disgraced headmaster then takes hold of John Paul and drags him into the water, refusing to admit what he’s doing.

The question is: will John Paul die at dastardly Carter’s hands? Or will John Paul manage to free himself before it’s too late?

And as for Carter’s mentor and fellow conversion therapist Declan Hawthorne (Alan Turkington)?

The evil church leader is keeping daughter Kitty Draper (Iz Hesketh) prisoner at the lake. Kitty begs her father to let her go but Declan proceeds to misgender her, refusing to free her.

Beau Ramsey (Jon-Paul Bell), however, is on the case and after tracking her down to the cabin, he finds Kitty tied up. But sinister Declan is one step ahead – and he knocks Beau unconscious! Is more blood set to shed before this storyline reaches its conclusion?
