Hollyoaks legend takes holiday after unexpected soap axe
Hollyoaks star Ellis Hollins has been sunning it up in Tunisia after he was axed from the Channel 4 soap.
The actor, 24, played legendary character Tom Cunningham for over two decades before he was written out earlier this month.
Tom, alongside half-sister Cindy (Stephanie Waring), made a quick escape after learning that her husband Dave Williams (Dominic Power) was actually fearsome gangster Blue.
In shocking scenes, he pulled a gun on the siblings, though they both managed to flee.
Desperate to depart before they found themselves in more danger, Cindy and Tom decided to stay with older sister Jude in Spain, taking their children Hilton and Steph with them.
To the tune of Spice Girls’ Goodbye, the pair drove out of Hollyoaks village in a bright red 1995 Vauxhall Corsa, strikingly similar to the same model of car that their driving instructor dad Mr C drove back in the day.
Now, just weeks on, Ellis is enjoying a break with his mum Jacqui in North Africa.
In a series of pictures uploaded to Instagram, which he captioned ‘The big Tun’, we can see the mother and son taking in the sights of the area. He also added a picture of an eatery known as ‘Café Ellis’.
Ellis was the first credited actor to play Tom, joining the show in 2003. For four years prior to that, a number of child actors had taken on the part.
He featured in a number of high profile storylines over the years, including losing both of his parents in a devastating car crash.
A few years later, half-brother and legal guardian Max (Matt Littler) passed away.
Tom then became a teenage father after girlfriend Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell) gave birth.
