Hollyoaks star Charlie Wernham responds to shocking murder scene
“It’s a secret that Robbie has to carry with him.”
Hollyoaks star Charlie Wernham has responded to the shocking murder scene that took place before the soap’s time jump.
Wernham’s character Robbie Roscoe made a surprise move earlier this month when he was seen shooting and seemingly killing Dave Williams – who was revealed to be vicious gangster Blue – in a dramatic scene.
His crime has gone unnoticed in the village over the course of the past year following the time jump, with the residents clearly unaware of Dave’s fate due to the presence of ‘missing’ posters in the village asking for information on his whereabouts.
Wernham, who returned to the soap this year after an eight-year absence, spoke with Inside Soap about the development, with the actor sharing that the murder will weigh heavily on Robbie’s conscience despite Dave’s many crimes.
“It’s a secret Robbie’s got to carry with him,” remarked Wernham. “You could argue it was the right thing to do, because of all the people Dave was hurting! But Robbie does feel remorse, he has a heart.
“People’s [fans] reactions have been funny, they’ve been saying: ‘Well done, he really deserved it!’ So if you’re going to kill someone on screen, make sure it’s a baddy who the viewers don’t like!”
Wernham, who debuted as Robbie back in 2013, also spoke about his surprise return to the soap, saying: “I’ve been really enjoying it! Being back at Hollyoaks has been amazing, even better than I could have imagined.
“But I’m happy that the fans know Robbie’s back now and it’s out there, so I can finally talk about it. I feel like a weight’s been lifted,” he added, before assessing how Robbie has changed over the years.
“He’ changed quite a bit, he’s a bit darker. He’s been through a lot off screen, a lot’s happened, he’s gone from being a boy and all talk to fulfilling the things he says he’s going to do. Growing up is probably the wrong thing to say, but he’s become a man in his own eyes.”
