Is Brettsey’s Chicago Fire wedding venue based on a real place?

The couple are getting hitched in pretty unique location.

The wedding happened, and it was awesome. There was a lot of anticipation heading into the Chicago Fire episode “Port in the Storm”, and its easy to see why: Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) have been working towards it for years. It wasn’t always a smooth journey, but it was an honest one.

The lack of smoothness also applies to the wedding planning. Brett was tasked with carrying out a lot of it on her own (given that Casey was in Oregon), and her decision to delegate work to Tony (Anthony Ferraris) kinda sorta backfired. She asked the firefighter to secure the Aquarium, as it the prestigious Shedd Aquarium, as the venue for the wedding.

Brettsey wedding was held at the Aquarium

Chicago Fire - Season 12

Simple enough, right? Well, not quite. Tony accidentally booked the Aquarium, as it in a literal store where they sell fish, instead. Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith) and company were able to dress it up and make the place look great, but there was still some cute hijinx that resulted from the confusion.

Given the emphasis placed on the Aquarium as a wedding venue, some fans may be curious as to whether the store is a real location in the Windy City. There are currently no listings for a store with the name the Aquarium in Chicago, but there is a spot with a similar name and color scheme…

It doesn’t appear to be a real location

There is a local business under the title Old Town Aquarium, located on W Irving Park Rd. There has no reports that Chicago Fire cast and crew utilized Old Town as their location, but the purple lighting from the fishtanks, coupled with the hardwood floors, does bear a striking resemblance to the promo photos from the wedding.

It’s possible that the show took real-life influence and/or combined location shooting with soundstages. As it stands, however, there isn’t an official location you can visit to see where Brett and Casey got hitched.

Chicago Fire has filmed scenes at Shedd Aquarium, as we reported back in 2021, so at least some of the characters got to see the prestigious location (even if nobody gets married there).

What we do know is that the reception for the Brettsey wedding was held at Molly’s Pub, which is, in fact, a real location in Chicago. It goes under a different name: Lottie’s Pub, but the exterior remains the same as whenever we see it on the show, which means local fans wanting to relive their favorite moments from “Port in the Storm” can do so at Lottie’s!
