Major TV star confirms he won’t return to Hollyoaks after months of mystery

Richard Blackwood as Felix Westwood in Hollyoaks

Hollyoaks star Richard Blackwood has confirmed he has left the Channel 4 soap.

The actor, also known for his role as Vincent in EastEnders, arrived as Felix Westwood back in 2020.

The character hasn’t actually been seen in the village since February of this year. He left with some assistance from Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe), who helped him escape the clutches of vengeful Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas).

Warren was holding Felix personally responsible for the death of Ella Richardson (Erin Palmer), who perished at the start of the year after being struck by one of the vehicles that was involved in the collision at Dee Valley bypass.

Felix was speeding down the road in a bid to terrify passenger Mercedes into confessing who she was sleeping with when the crash occurred, hence why Warren has come to this conclusion.

The gangster then plotted revenge, taking Felix on a fishing trip to a remote location, where he intended to shoot him dead and bury the body.

Felix, however, worked out what Warren was up to and stole the gun, with a scuffle ensuing that led to the weapon firing a shot, which struck Warren in the shoulder.

Prior to his departure, Felix warned Mercedes to watch herself around Warren, making it quite clear that he will never change and that he’s dangerous – words which evidently left our Merc spooked as she watched her former flame leave the village.

At the time, Hollyoaks fans couldn’t help but wonder if that was the last they had seen of Felix. After months of speculation, actor Richard Blackwood has sadly confirmed that was Felix’s departure.

‘Okay, so officially I’ve left Hollyoaks now’, he said during an interview on the Rated 18 podcast.

Discussing why he left, Richard said: ‘If you want to go further, you do three or four [years] tops, after that you are cemented into the show – your name is fixed, so casting people don’t wanna even see you.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted Hollyoaks for a comment.

News of Richard’s departure comes just weeks before a huge moment for Hollyoaks, which will see the soap jump forward in time.

The Channel 4 show is adopting the new scheduling pattern after research indicated that this is the optimum amount of episodes for audiences.

Fans were left heartbroken by the prospect of less outings of their favourite show – but more sad news followed, with a number of major cast members confirmed to be exiting in order to facilitate the changes.

Hollyoaks will see in its new era with a stunt week kicking things off on Monday, September 9, with the following week (Monday, September 16) seeing the soap skip forward a year.

And, with faces set to disappear before and during the jump, viewers are desperate to know which characters are going and which are staying.

There have been a few shocks already in this respect. Stephanie Waring – who played one of TV’s most iconic characters in Cindy Cunningham for 28 years – confirmed that her character was one of those axed, news which left fans in shock.

Metro, meanwhile, confirmed that Matthew James Bailey, who plays Ethan Williams is set to exit in the coming months.

Jon-Paul Bell, Ross Adams and Glynis Barber have already been written out as Beau Ramsey, Scott Drinkwell and Norma Crow respectively, with their exit stories having proven divisive with fans, while Jamie Lomas – who plays Warren Fox – will depart soon as part of a huge gangster narrative.

So yes, suffice to say Hollyoaks will look very different come September without the aforementioned stars.
