No Episode of Chicago PD Tonight: Here’s the Return Schedule
Chicago PD packed a major punch with its season 11 finale, “More.” The episode put the lives of both Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) on the line, and resulted in the latter deciding to leave the Windy City behind. We even got an unexpected cameo from Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas).
As one might expect, though, a finale means it will be a while before we get new episodes of Chicago PD. The police procedural had to jump through some production hoops during season 11, due to the writers and actors strike. It would up being one of the shortest seasons in years as a result.
The bad news is that fans will have to wait for new episodes. The good news is that the wait won’t be nearly as long as the gap between seasons 10 and 11, which almost spanned a year (!).
Chicago PD season 12 will premiere in fall 2024
NBC has already confirmed its fall 2024 schedule, and Chicago PD is one of the shows on the list. We’ll get to see the Chicago PD season 12 premiere sometime in late September or early October at the very latest, depending on how smoothly production runs.
Generally, though, the network prefers to get its shows back on the air by September. The same goes for the other two shows in the One Chicago franchise: Chicago Med and Chicago Fire.
What to expect when Chicago PD returns
The first and most obvious change to PD season 12 will be the absence of Hailey Upton. The character has left the IU behind, which means it will need to find a replacement. There’s been speculation that Josephine Petrovic (Bojana Novakovic) will take over, but she’s technically still working as an SVU profiler.
There’s also the impending marriage of Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger). The two characters got engaged in season 11, and while there was some speculation that they would tie the knot before the finale, the writers (wisely) decided to focus on Upton.
Both changes suggest that we’re entering a new phase of Chicago PD, and we’re excited!
