The season 12 finale of Chicago Fire had a lot on its plate. It had to square away the departure of one Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker), and it also had deal with the Carver (Jake Lockett) and Violet (Hanako Greensmith) romance hitting a snag.
Amidst all this chaos, however, the show found time to drop in a cameo from none other than Sylvie Brett. Sort of. It was technically a cameo, in the sense that the character had an interaction onscreen. It got lost amidst the post-finale discussions, but the Brett cameo could actually set up some major developments in season 13.

Sylvie Brett’s cameo came in the form of a text exchange. Near the middle of the episode, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), Brett’s longtime friend, received a text message from the ex-51 member with a photo of her daughter. If you recall, Brett adopted a little girl shortly before she got married and left for Portland.
We don’t actually get to see Brett (or the actress who plays her, Kara Killmer, onscreen), but the text message laid the groundwork for an important decision in Kidd’s life. In the same episode, Severide (Taylor Kinney) approaches Kidd and reveals that he’s thought about having kids.
Brett’s text could predict a season 13 story arc
It catches Kidd completely off guard, but there’s inklings that Kidd has wanted kids of her own for some time, and her sweet reaction to Brett’s text message supports this reading. Having Brett be the one who stirs up these emotions not only makes sense, but it’s a fun way to ensure that the character still plays a role in the life of her 51 family.
If that weren’t enough, Kara Killmer weighed in on the season 12 finale on social media. She tweeted her support of Boden’s aforementioned promotion on X as soon as the episode aired. “I am conflicted about this, but there’s clearly no one better for the job of commissioner,” she wrote.
In another, more relevant tweet, the actress was ecstatic about the idea of a Stellaride baby. “Yes!!! A #stellaride baby,” she added. “Please!!!!” We share her enthusiasm. Let’s see if the writers for the next season do as well.
