Tracy Spiridakos’ Instagram is a must for any Chicago PD fans. The actress has been documenting her final season on the show with photos and behind-the-scenes videos. Most have been with the current cast, of course, given that’s who she’s around most, but there have been exceptions.

The actress celebrated the birthday of her boyfriend and ex-PD star, Jesse Lee Soffer. It’s her most recent post, however, that most tugged at the heartstrings of longtime fans. Those who watched the finale episode, “More,” know that a delirious Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) was paid a visit by the late IU officer, Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas). The officer provided some words of wisdom while Voight decided whether to fight or give in to his seeminly doomed predicament (he obviously chose the former).

Tracy Spiridakos shared her emotional reunion with fans

Spiridakos didn’t get a chance to film any scenes with Koteas, but she commemorated the reunion on Instagram with a series of shared photos. “I’m so glad Luce had a camera to capture our reunion,” she wrote in the caption. “Love you so much!”

This is not the first time the actress has spoken highly of Koteas’ return. During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she confirmed that the idea to bring the character of Upton back was Jason Beghe’s. “It was incredibly special, as it as a group of people who missed him, and who really love seeing him on screen and working with him,” she explained.

She also praised Koteas’ work in his lone “comeback” scene:

“It was so nice to bring him back! That scene was beautiful. They just couldn’t have been better in it.”

The PD cast had been waiting for Olinksy to return

Chicago PD showrunner Gwen Sigan was similarly stoked to bring Koteas back. She told NBC that she’d wanted to previously, but knew that the show needed to wait to bring him back in order to get the maximum dramatic impact.

“This was finally the perfect time to do it,” Sigan explained. “Because [Voight] was in the most vulnerable place and it made sense to have this vision of him sort of telling him to keep going and to wake up… It came from this idea that we all loved and wanted to figure out, ‘How can we fit it in?'”

We’re glad it finally came together, and that Spiridakos and Koteas reunited before they parted ways with the show!
