What’s next for Trudy Platt in Chicago PD season 12?
Trudy Platt had a rough go during the season 10 finale of Chicago PD. Not only did she have to contend with her peer and friend, Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), being rushed to the hospital, but she had to deal with her husband, Mouch (Christian Stolte) being shot and nearly killed during the Chicago Fire season 11 finale.
Platt, played marvelously by Amy Morton, is tough, but even she was worn down by these grave events. Thankfully, both Ruzek and Mouch bounced back in their respective franchises, and Platt spent the bulk of Chicago PD‘s 11th season dispensing advice. What’s in store for the character in the upcoming season, though?
Trudy Platt will help her husband on Chicago Fire
Well, to be fair, Platt is never front-and-center when it comes to drama. She’s someone who nullifies, and comforts, rather than sparks drama. It’s the reason everyone in the IU has come to her at some point to sort out their frustrations. She’s a good listener, she’s blunt, and she’s smart.
If anything, Platt was set up to have more of an impact on the upcoming season of Chicago Fire than she will on PD. The 12th season ended with Mouch deciding that he was going to take the lieutenant exam, and he alluded to Platt helping him out. This is a logical way to build on Mouch’s arc following his near death experience.
The character could serve as a mentor in S12
Beside supporting her husband, Platt doesn’t have a clear path forward in the upcoming season of Chicago PD. The character will undoubtedly play a role in filling the occupancy left by Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), as evidenced by the fact that she was pushing for Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) to fill IU vacancies during the season 11 premiere.
It would be nice to see the character get a storyline or two for herself, though. Perhaps she wants to seek out a promotion of her own, or serve as a direct mentor on the IU officer who gets brought in to fill Upton’s shoes. What would you like to see?
