Wendy Seager is a recurring character in later seasons of Chicago Fire, and the actor who plays her has had an interesting career path.
Chicago Fire has had a revolving door of characters through its 11 seasons, including Wendy Seager. The long-running procedural, part of Dick Wolf’s One Chicago franchise, follows the personal and professional lives of the firefighters, rescue personnel, and paramedics of the Chicago Fire Department Firehouse 51. While the show tends to focus on the main cast, recurring characters get their share of the story and often stick around for multiple seasons, winding in and out of the crisscrossing story.
One of the later introductions to Chicago Fire is Wendy Seager, a Lieutenant with the Office of Fire Investigation. Wendy first appears in season 8, episode 7, “Crazytown,” and is a recurring character for a few episodes. She then departs in season 9 only to return in seasons 10 and 11. Wendy worked closely with Lieutenant Kelly Severide in their fire investigations, and their close proximity and easy chatter always bordered on flirtatious. She may not have the largest role in the series, but fans may recognize the actress who plays Wendy Seager from more than just her TV career.
Wendy Seager Is Played By Singer Andy Allo
Wendy Seager on Chicago Fire is played by Cameroon-born singer-songwriter Andy Allo. She released her first album, UnFresh, in 2009 and while it didn’t immediately rocket her to stardom, it did catch the eye of one notable musician: Prince (via PureWow). She went on to play backing guitar in Prince’s band The New Power Generation and released more solo albums, inviting Prince to collaborate on songs that appear on her 2012 album, Superconductor. Around that time, Allo appeared in three episodes of The Game as Allison. She then released three more albums: Hello and Oui Can Luv in 2015 and One Step Closer two years later.
In 2017, Allo appeared in the movie Pitch Perfect 3 as Serenity, a member of the rival singing group Evermoist. There she puts her vocal and shredding talents to use in a legitimately fist-pump-worthy song on Pitch Perfect 3‘s soundtrack. Her role in Chicago Fire as Wendy Seager saw her take a more dramatic part than any she had done before. This role led to Andy Allo’s role as Nora Anthony, one of the main characters on the show Upload. While the first half of her career was marked by music and movie and TV roles that utilized that talent, Allo has quickly proven herself as a serious dramatic actor.
Does Wendy Seager Ever Sing On Chicago Fire?
Wendy Seager never does any singing on Chicago Fire, a shame considering how talented a vocalist Andy Allo is. In fact, Wendy is in some ways underutilized on the show, but that is not unusual for a recurring character on a series like Chicago Fire. The real story is about the main characters of Chicago Fire, and even though guest roles and recurring characters add new and exciting flavors, they rarely receive the same deliberate investigation into their lives as the show’s regulars.
Despite Allo not singing as Wendy Seager on Chicago Fire or any of her music appearing on the show, her presence is undeniable. Without any dialogue pointing to the fact, Wendy immediately has chemistry with Severide in the handful of scenes they share. That’s an ability to capture attention with limited time, a skill she learned playing on some of the biggest stages with Prince and her own band. Musicians have a knack for theatricality and stage presence, and Allo puts it to good use in all of her roles.
