Why Torres Isn’t On Chicago P.D. — For Now

The rookie cop, played by Benjamin Levy Aguilar, has a reasonable excuse.

With Chicago P.D.finally returning with Season 11 on January 17, One Chicago fans are happy to see the entire Intelligence Unit back together again — except for one particular cop.

In the season’s premiere, “Unpacking,” the newest member of the team Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) is noticeably missing from the episode. So, where is he exactly, and will he be back? Find out everything you need to know right here on NBC Insider.

Where is Torres in Chicago P.D. Season 11?

We get an answer regarding Torres’ whereabouts early on in the episode when Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) drops that he’s, “Out on furlough helping with his mom,” while asking an uncooperative Voight (Jason Beghe) to name replacements for Torres and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) during their absence.

The rookie has had ongoing issues with family since Season 10, when Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) spilled during the finale that Torres was out of town with his mother, who was being seen at the Mayo Clinic.

“He’s actually been going through it back at home and trying to help his mom and make sure that she’s healthy and sort of has been off the job for a bit,” showrunner Gwen Sigan explains to NBC Insider.

Torres on Chicago PD

The last time we saw him was during the Torres-centered episode “New Life” (Season 10, Episode 21), in which we got a glimpse of his darker side. The Intelligence Unit was investigating the death of his former gang leader, and with a case that clearly hit too close to home, Torres crossed the line and threatened to waterboard a suspect.

“He has worked so hard to move forward from his past that it’s really hard to break those cycles as a child when you come from deep trauma and broken homes,” Aguilar told NBC Insider. “He literally chose the opposite of what he was. He became a cop. It’s literally the opposite of what he could have been.To stop people like that and to stop those cycles and to save people, and then he has this past that doesn’t go away, and it keeps hunting him and it keeps being thrown in his face in different ways.”

Is Torres coming back to Chicago P.D.?

Torres’ absence is not permanent. He will be back on our screens and with the team — during Season 11 — in no time. Keep watching Chicago P.D. Wednesdays at 10/9c to catch his return.
