LaRoyce Hawkins on raising his son

Hawkins is a dedicated father. In a campaign announcing his mentorship with the creative agency, Cove, the actor opened up about what being a parent to Roman means to him.

“I hope to leave my son with a legacy that helps him recognize his light through his gifts, and I want to be an example of how you can utilize all your gifts. Fatherhood was a shift on its own. You wanna be the greatest example you can be to your son, especially as a father,” he said.

He continued, “I knew there was gonna be some things that I had to change about myself and some growth that I had to embrace in order for me to be able to give him the same lesson one day with a straight face. I can’t teach him anything I haven’t gone through or accepted for myself. I see myself a lot in him, so when I tighten up and level up, I understand that it’s not just for me and my career. I know it’s for my legacy through my son.”

In an August 2023 interview with Essence, he also talked about how proud he is of his son.

“Fatherhood has really taught me a couple things – more than a couple of things, but one of the things that I’ve been really taking pride in recently is my patience, just being patient with the small things too. The process of patience more than anything. I don’t think we can find ourselves being ultimately patient. I don’t think patience is a goal as much as it is just a process every day, just taking in stride what you can get, and really embracing where you are. It’s helped me with that too,” the actor told the outlet.
